PHOTOGRAPHY!! Wow when I signed up for this class I thought to myself this will be easy I love taken pictures. Boy was I wrong, with out first assignment I didn’t realize how difficult it would be taking pictures. I’m so use to just snapping a shot at things that I think are pretty or just looks cool. I never took into account proper composition, colors, and the rules of thirds. Understanding and practicing some of the techniques in class has greatly improved my pictures. Now I feel proud to show off some of my pictures!
When I look back at my first week of pictures I can certainly see where I needed to improve my skills. Being in class and learning how to frame pictures really helped me make my pictures more interestin
g. Understanding partial and full framing concepts gave me a better understan
ding on how I should arrange my shots. One of the first pictures on my blog, which a bike is framed by the cars, was one picture I was truly proud of.
I am so proud of this picture because it followed all of the rules of framing, which consist of, boarding a subject fully or partially. Another thing I’ve learned over the past three weeks, would be properly taking black and white photo. You can really see the improvement in the third cycle of my projects. The picture titled ‘love’ really surprised me, because it came out so good. With black and white photography I read and learned that if you want to create a dramatic atmosphere use dim lighting. I tried this approach and some of my pictures came out too dark or blurry
Therefore, I tried using a bright light and positioned myself so that they light was behind me and it came out much better for this photo (above). Another thing I’ve learned over the course our three week project which I believe would be to always think out side of the box. At first when I would take leisure pictures I would just snap the shot and be done with it. I realize with this class you cannot do this, you must keep the viewer intrigued. You can keep a viewer intrigued by showing different perspectives of an everyday object. I tested this theory with a tree trunk that had a bunch of smaller stick like things growing around it. Kneeling down and snapping this shot made the image so much more interesting than just taking it dead on. I believe taking the picture this way, allows the views to question in a way what they are looking at.

With all that I’ve learned, I look forward to continually challenging my skills as a photographer. This class has opened my eyes to how creative and expressive you can be with photography. I’ve also enjoyed learning from my many peers and our critiques in class. I believe if you don’t know what you did wrong you will never get better, and photography is most definitely something I would like to be great at!
