What I've learned this semester..
continue my photography after I've completed the class, because what Dr. Hart said in
class is true; you make the photos not the other way around. I use to think that I'd have to find cool things to take, but I never thought that I could take pictures of anything and make it cool in my own way. Whether its the way I would hold the camera for the shot or if I change up the lighting. This class has most definitely taught me to relax and enjoy taking pictures instead of worrying about how pretty it is, look for how great the techniques were. As you can see I spoke about controlling your photo, one way to d
o this is controlling the light with the shutter speed, f-stop, iso, and white balance. Now I've had all of these features (aside from f-stop and shutter speed) on my camera and I never knew how to use these features, now that I do I can mostly definitely see an improvement in my photos! If I could tell anyone advise that I wish I knew before this class, I would say invest in a quality
camera. This is important because although, I have a great camera for shooting general shots, my camera was not comparable to the camera Dr. Hart described during class. I wish I had control over my f-stop and shutter speed. This would have made it easier for me to understand how these aspects greatly affect photos. Although, I didn't have these features I
don't think it stopped me from excelling in the class. Another thing each student should do is read your manual reading my manual really helped me to understand my camera and how it worked with the different photos I needed to take. I've always seen certain features on my camera but I never knew what they meant until I read my manual. Below you will find some pictures that I think show my progression in this class. :)
This picture (to the left)is special to me be
cause although they are just stairs, I decided to take this picture leaning over so that I get the spiral affect. Old Karen wouldn't have seen the beauty in this picture.
The picture taught me how to work with leading lines in a more creative way and also how to slowly work on my depth of field aspects. I was trying to practice this and I can see I was
getting a little bit better.
The next picture shows how far I've grown in this class, if you are curious of how far I've come you must check out the very first picture I posted on my blog. I surprised myself at how far I've come, I hope you agree!

This is also on of my favorite pictures! I think I am getting a lot better with depth of field! I love how you can see all of the ingredients and warning label on the bottle but the background is a bit blurry. I hope I get better and better with this technique this is my favorite aspect of photography thus far :) Another aspect I like about this photo is the bricks, the bricks look as you can feel them! Overall this picture I would give an A :)

As you can see I love the technique Dr. Hart taught us, allowing the subject to only be in focus and the remained of the picture out of focus, this is called depth of field. The way I incorporated age was taking a shot of something that is one of the oldest things here on earth, a tree. I love how I got close enough where you can still the detail of the bark and its age. This picture is by far one of my favorites, I can most definitely tell I've made progress in this class since I started this class! :)

I chose this framing because the old school polaroids were taken like this. Since Dr. Hart showed us this new site (well new to me lol) I've been editing all of my pictures with it! Anyways, I decided to take this picture of my bathroom because I thought the doorway was a perfect way to show framing. If you look hard you can see that I've blurred the inside of the door and the door is the only object in this shot that is completely sharp.

Pennie
Now on my way to Curtis house I decided to bring my dog along pennie. You have seen her in some of my other pictures, looking cute as usual :). I've been trying to work on portraits and I decided to use her as one of my main subjects. She would turn her head no matter how much I called her name but I think this picture came out well :) As for f-stop and aperture the picture didn't come out under or over exposed in my opinion.
curtis yard
Now this picture I really like because it has the leading lines and the flowers were so pretty. This picture too was taken in Curtis's back yard :). Now since the picture was taken in the shade I'm guessing the aperture would have a lower number because I would want to let in more light also the f-stop would be larger because I would need to allow light to enter the camera longer so that the picture isn't under exposed. Also, based on the color wheel I believe there are complementary colors being displayed; yellow and brown. I am a bit confused now because I do see lots of green so would this be triad as well?
Roses
This picture was chosen to represent environment and simplicity. I chose these flowers because they were so pretty! I went home this past weekend and visited my boyfriend's (who you often see in my pics ;) ) parents house, his mother has a wonderful garden so I thought this is a great place to take my pictures! As I stated before, my camera does not give the details of f-stop and aperture but if I had to estimate these things I would think this was used with a higher f-stop because it is was very sunny Saturday and the aperture would be lower as well because we wouldn't need to let in so much light because it is already bright outdoors. Now the color scheme used on the color wheel to make the pop of pink would be Triad Colors which is said on the color wheel using 3 colors to create that pop of color.

Dr. Karen-photo 5
This photo isn't bad, I think it could be a little more focused and I would recommend using some photo editing to change the color of the liquid in the cup. This photo isn't that sick so you can expect a quick recovery! =)
Dr. Karen-4
This photo is very sick! The focus and the exposure is terrible. This photo should be diagnosed with a retake. I think If I were to retake the photo and steady my hand the photo would have come out a lot better!
Dr. Karen-3
Although, I spoke about this photo on my other post, but I learned in class today I could edit the background bottles to create the depth of feel I was trying to create. This I believe would greatly improve my photo.
Dr. Karen Treatment-2
I liked this photo a lot but now that I look at it this photo seems to have a case of needing to be edited. Although it came out well, I would like to use some editing to get rid of all of the shine on the young girls face. This would enhance the photo and make it less distracting.
Dr. Karen Treatments-1
This photo seems to be really sick! I suggest we retake the photo and possibly enhance the colors using photoshop. This photo seems to have a case of focus issues and exposure issues.

HPIM0294
This photo is creative because I didn't mean for it to come out this great! The rocks are framed by the trees. I took this photo in Richmond at maymount park, this past weekend. The technique I used was outdoor mode. I researched online some of the settings for my camera and how other people used it and it was very insightful on which modes I should use for which photo. Although, I have my manual online was a lot better for me to understand because I was able to use Youtube. Hopefully with more practice I'll be able to understand better how to use my camera since it doesn't have all of the features we spoke about in class.
Curtis <3
I tried to use trees to show off the green for this weeks theme and tried to use the trees to frame Curtis' face. To be honest when you put color and a theme attached to a photo it makes it a lot more difficult! But I think I accomplished my job :) With this photo I also tried to use the rule of thirds, this worked out great based on how the trees frame his face. As for the shutter speed and exposure I think this photo is a little bit under exposed it could have been brighter in my opinion. If we are allowed to use photoshop for our next project then I'll be able to play around with exposure and correct my mistakes. But overall I believe I achieved the goal that I wanted with this photo.
Picture not in the theme
I chose this picture because I wanted to test out a new technique we learned in class. This technique is called blurring. This is when one aspect of the photo is in focus and the other is not. Your suppose to control this using F-stop and shutter speed, but my camera does not have this option. I tried to change the shutter speed on camera but the only option I had was ISO, I played around with this feature as well. This feature changes how sensitive the light is that's being let in on the image sensor. But I played around with some of the action features on my camera and tried focusing on the front bottle and it seems like it worked. When I press down lightly on the camera action button it allows me to focus the photo. This time I held the button slightly down in front of the first bottle and this was my result.
